PAYLOAD
The 2012 Silverado 1500's three-piece modular frame forms the rugged foundation for this remarkable truck. The frame places the greatest reinforcement where it's needed most while incorporating advanced manufacturing processes (like hydroforming) that help make the steel stronger, yet lighter than conventional steel. This helps allow for payload capacities that can top out at 880 kg (1,940 lb.).
TOWING
Purpose-built for towing with specific advancements developed to answer the dynamics of trailering – advancements like standard Trailer Sway Control (see 'Safety' section), Hill Hold Assist, automatic transmissions with Tow/Haul mode and grade braking on the available six-speed automatic transmissions. Plus the GM-exclusive available automatic locking differential (G80) adds to the Silverado's superior towing and off road capability. Properly equipped, it can tow up to 4,854 kg (10,700 lb.) of your life.
POWER
Silverado offers a range of VortecTM engines, from a fuel efficient V6 through three V8s, plus the only full-size Hybrid pickup on the market today. For its perfect combination of power and fuel efficiency, the VortecTM 5.3L V8 (with 348 lb.-ft. of torque) remains the most popular choice. For maximum power and towing capacity however, you can upgrade to the available VortecTM 6.2L V8 that produces 403 horsepower and a whopping 417 lb.-ft. of torque!
FUEL EFFICIENCY
What makes the Silverado's engine so popular is that it generates its power with ruthless efficiency thanks to features like Active Fuel Management® that shuts down half the engine's cylinders when they aren't needed, and variable Valve Timing that optimizes combustion timing as power demands change. The end result is best-in-class full-size pickup V8 fuel efficiency1 both on the highway, and in the city.
SAFETY
On top of such advanced standard safety features as the StabiliTrak® electronic stability control system and a 360° occupant protection system, the Silverado 1500 now adds Trailer Sway Control on all 2012 models. So next time you're driving into a nasty crosswind, you can relax knowing that the system intervenes when your trailer starts to sway by applying individual brakes and reducing power.
TECHNOLOGY
Chevrolet is known for its VortecTM power and other such technologies but the Silverado 1500 has another side – its infotainment technology. Beyond entertainment features like an available Bose® premium sound system and USB port, there are other truly useful features like OnStar RemoteLinkTM2 that lets you check the status of many of your truck's vital systems remotely on your smartphone. Handy stuff.
