Interior Safety Features
Safety Belts
Without question, safety belts still provide the most effective crash protection. To get the best combination of safety and comfort, look for safety belts designed with:
- Adjustable shoulder straps allow you to adjust a belt for comfort without affecting its ability to lock up instantly in case of a rapid stop or accident.
- A rear seatbelt attachment that protrudes through the seat cushion, eliminating loose or tangled belts and disappearing buckles.
- A rear seat shoulder belt re-router (also known as a comfort guide) makes the belt more comfortable for children and smaller adults.
- Seatbelt extensions for larger adults.
- Child seat top tether anchors.
Air Bags
Air bags have saved thousands of lives and are among the most important safety features in vehicles today. The latest models have been designed to operate with less force than in the past, maximizing protection while minimizing the chance of inadvertent injury.
To ensure that air bags do their job properly in case of an accident:
- Always wear your safety belt. Air bags were designed to supplement seat belts, not replace them.
- Sit as far back from the air bag as you can while maintaining a relaxed and comfortable driving position.
- Never put a rear-facing child seat in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger-side air bag.
- Make young children sit in the back seat of a vehicle with a passenger-side air bag.
OnStar®
If your air bags deploy, OnStar-equipped vehicles send a signal to an OnStar advisor, who contacts you to see if you need help. You can also press the OnStar emergency button anytime you need help. OnStar is available today on most GM models.
Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN)
AACN automatically notifies OnStar and provides crash information following a collision. AACN uses additional sensors to detect rear and side impacts even if the air bags do not deploy.
®Visit OnStar ® for coverage map, details and system limitations. Services vary by model and conditions.
